I want you to love the sport of bowling as much as I do and I want to take you as far as you're willing to go with it.

I'll teach you how to stay calm on the lanes, always have sportmanship, and honor the integrity of the game.

You'll learn when to use what ball and why, play areas of the lane you always avoided, and throw every shot with confidence.

No matter how you peform, I'll always support you and guide you how to improve.

This is a long haul sport. One that can make you feel on top of the world one game, and at the bottom of a pit another.

I understand this fully. Because of that, I teach the mental aspect of bowling as well as the physical game.

You're never alone. Your team will always stand behind you no matter the outcome. You can count on us. You can lean on us.

I have years of experience in this sport, go to state and national tournaments yearly, and know multiple bowling styles.

Form is key. Speed control, carry vs. revs, being stable, and playing a consistant line will become things you teach others.

I know what you're doing right and what you're missing. Small changes make huge improvements which you'll see for yourself once I show you.

Any question you have, I can answer with absolute truth and confidence that I'm giving you the correct answer.

Guiding you to be the best you can be is my main goal. By doing that, our odds of winning are always going to be high.

The better you perform, the more you'll love this sport. The more you love the sport, the better the odds you of taking it futher.

The number of students vary from year to year. Our 2023-2024 season had 8 Varsity and 8 Jr. Varsity athletes.
Our 2024-2025 season had 6 Varsity and 3 Jr. Varsity athletes

Practice Questions

We use Don Carter Lanes in Rockford. Practice is on Monday through Fridays from 4:00PM to 5:15PM throughout the bowling season.
If you're being picked up by your parents or other arrangements, make sure they know what time practice ends..

Yes. If your parents would like to watch you bowl, you're more than welcome to invite them. We do ask that they do not intrupt practices or coach players. They are able to speak to us as they need to during practices and we are always willing to listen.

No, unless absolutely necessary. If you for any reason you have to eat something during our practice time, please follow the below directions.

  1. Do Not make it a multiple course meal
  2. Do Not eat with your primary hand
  3. Do Not forget to watch for your turn
  4. Do Not leave your garbage behind when you're done eating

NOTE: If exceptions to the rule become a problem or are a distraction at ANY point in the current or upcoming year, it will be restricted for everyone during practice.

Yes. We take note of who shows up and who does not. Players who do not show up to practices risk not being played or potentally removed from the roster if it becomes a routine.

Yes, absolutely. Grades are more important than your partisipation during practice. There are tables available at Don Carter Lanes near where we practice that you can use for this purpose.

No. Bowling practice takes place after school hours, off of school property, but the below attire is prohibitted:

Match & Tournament Questions

We play a 3 game series against the below mentioned schools 1 time each. Each match will last roughly 2 hours +/-.

We play the following 9 schools;
Belvidere (North), Machesney Park (Harlem), Rockford (Boylan Catholic), Rockton (Hononegah), Rockford (East), Belvidere (H.S.), Freeport (H.S.), Rockford (Auburn), and Rockford (Jefferson).

The Northern Illinois Conference (NIC-10) is a high school athletic conference consisting of nine high public schools and one Catholic school in Illinois' Boone, Stephenson, and Winnebago Counties. Member schools are also full members of the Illinois High School Association (IHSA), and are among the larger schools in that area, all competing in Class AA (in the two class system) of IHSA competitions.

Even though you are competing as a team when you play against every school in the NIC-10 Conference, you are also competing as an individual. You must bowl at least 24 out of 27 games to qualify for NIC-10. If you finish as an individual in the top-10 tier after 24 to 27 games, you made NIC-10. Your average determins your standings, NOT your total pin fall.

The Top-16 Tournament occurs at the end of the season and includes the top 10 varcity players as well as places 11 - 16 from the boys and girls teams. This competition takes place over 3 days and consists of 15 games. Boys and girls bowl together and you'll be paired up with the opposite gender who finished in the same placement as you (Example: 3rd place boy bowls with 3rd place girl). You are not bowling against your partner, both boys and girls remain competing in their divisions.

You'll receive a shirt which has the current year's Top-16 design and get to bowl against the best players in the confrence if you land in the top 16.

Equipment Questions

Yes.

Per IHSA Rules: Holes or indentations for gripping purposes shall not exceed five and shall be limited to one for each finger and one for the thumb, all for the same hand with no drilled holes exceeding 1-9/16” diameter and 4-1/2” deep. (Note: This includes holes required to install removeable devices). The player is required to use all the gripping holes on every delivery with the same hand except when using a house ball.

Having the thumb hole filled is an inexpensive prcoess which can be done at any of the local shops located in the Resources tab.

NOTE: Violation of this rule will result in taking a 0 for any/all of the frames used, or possible disqualification.

No.

Per IHSA Rule Change: If a bowling ball is not publically available for use/purchase, it is not allowed to be used in any IHSA match.

NOTE: Violation of this rule will result in taking a 0 for any/all of the frames used, or possible disqualification.

Yes.

Per IHSA Rules: One vent hole to each finger and/or thumb hole, not to exceed 1/4 inch in diameter.

Vent holes assist with releasing the ball. They will not work on an interchangable thumb systems and prior to going this route, you should have your drilling layout examined by a pro shop to make sure you don't need your holes resized or your span re-measured.

Yes. I have a plethra of equipment which is unused, or there is always the use of a house ball and house shoes. The Resources tab has links to various online and local retailers who carry bowling equipment. Their deals change often, so make sure to check that area out if you're looking to shop around.

School Questions

Yes, but it must stay in your vehicle. Hopefully as time goes forward, we can allocate a storage spot within the school.

No. If you have ANY failing grades, you must correct them in order to bowl. We are notified every week of any student who is ineligable to partisipate.

No. If ANY of the above occour, you will be temperaraly ineligable to partisipate during the timeframes of your punishment or as deemed by the school/Athletic Director.

Non-School Bowling Questions

No. You can not bowl a non-school league during the high school season. If you are on a league, you must complete it or drop out of it within 7 days of the high school season begining.

Yes. You are allowed to do 3 non-school tournaments during your high school season if you are part of a team. Now, lets say you were the only bowler at a school and therefore you were competing as an individual and therefore not part of a team, you would have no limitations on the number of tournaments which you could partisipate in during your high school season.
